STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – May 23, 2011 – Xylem Corporation, a global leader in the transport and treatment of water and wastewater, today introduced a new sludge series to its flagship Flygt 2600 drainage pump range. Available for rental or purchase, the new Flygt 2600 sludge series comprise three portable multi-purpose models that handle sludge and other liquids containing larger solids. This extension provides a versatile and functional range that meets the evolving requirements of drainage and wastewater transfer applications for construction, mining, tunneling, industrial, and municipal customers. In addition, the pumps have new features which are easy to install and service, which reduces the total cost of ownership.

The three new Flygt sludge pumps have a range of 1.5 to 5.6 kW for 50 Hz countries and 2.4 - 8.9 hp for 60 Hz countries. Capable of flows up to 28 l/s (450 GPM) and heads to 38 m (128 ft.), these sludge pumps are ideal for temporary sewage pumping, digester cleaning at wastewater treatment plants, light slurry transfer, open-pit and underground mine dewatering, and emergency site drainage.

The Flygt 2600 sludge pump series – models 2620.280, 2630.280, and 2640.280 – results from customer demand for multi-purpose drainage pumps. These wear-resistant pumps handle solids up to 80 mm (3.2 in.) in size and solids concentrations of approximately 20 percent by weight, due to a larger inlet and pump volute, Hard-IronTM (60 HRC) vortex impeller, polyurethane-lined pump housing and side discharge design.
“These highly versatile pumps can move sediment-filled water from a construction site, pump light slurry in an aggregate washing process or remove water and drilling mud mixtures from the face of tunnel boring machines,” says Peter Hansen, product manager for Flygt drainage pumps at Xylem Water & Wastewater business. “And because the hydraulics of the sludge pumps and drainage pumps are interchangeable, customers can adapt one 2600 pump to handle many applications.”

The hydraulic ends of the new sludge pumps share drive units and common parts, and are interchangeable with similar sized models of the 2600 drainage series. This interchangeability allows end users the flexibility to adapt to changing application requirements and reduce spare parts inventory.

Flygt customers already familiar with the easy-to-service 2600 design will find maintaining the sludge pumps just as simple and quick. The new sludge series features the patented Flygt Plug-InTM seal, which provides a double mechanical seal in a compact and easy to replace single cartridge. External oil and inspection plugs, allow for seal-condition check and oil change without dismantling the pumps, and the removable top gives quick access to all electrical components.

The three new models also incorporate the latest enhancement in Flygt pumps: the terminal board. By sealing off the junction box from the motor, the terminal board prevents any water from passing between compartments, thereby reducing repair costs. Plus the screwless spring-loaded terminal design assures reliable connections and simplified wiring.

SUNDBYBERG, SWEDEN – September 13, 2010 – The IFAT Entsorga exhibition Sept. 13-17 in Munich, Germany, will host the global unveiling of the latest innovation in wastewater mixing from Xylem Corporation, the Flygt Top-Entry Agitator. Years in development, these units are specially designed for demanding denitrification, digester and sludge mixing applications. They round out the mixing solutions portfolio from the company that pioneered the first submersible mixers over three decades ago.

Since then, Xylem has installed more than 200,000 Flygt mixers. First to market with each conceptual advancement, including compact and low-speed banana blade units, Xylem has set the standard in wastewater mixing. Now, the design engineering and applications expertise behind that proven technology is available via a top-entry option.

Engineered for energy efficiency, hygienic handling, and ease of installation and service, Dieter Neitemeier, marketing director for biological treatment at Xylem business, said the three top-entry models were developed to offer additional reliable and efficient choices to serve customer needs.
Aside from increasing regulation, Neitemeier said, a big challenge municipal wastewater processors face today is managing sewage sludge. More municipalities are turning to improved biogas recovery systems, such as anaerobic digestion, to optimize profitability, generate on-site power and ultimately help the environment. Benefits of anaerobic digestion include odor control, improved soil nutrients and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Broader and better mixing options with top-entry agitators solve many of these requirements.

Xylem top entry agitator product manager, Per Selenius who has a 30-year career with these products, was brought on board two years ago for final rollout of the Flygt top-entry agitator. He stressed, "As for applications engineering and support and helping the customer in making the right selections and layout of the mixers and the tank, we are second to none there, regardless of mixer type."

The top-entry agitators come in two blade styles, hydrofoil stainless steel and composite polyurethane – the banana blade used on Flygt low-speed mixers – for optimum performance in different fluids and/or tank types. An advantage of the banana style is high density rag or fibrous material don't attach due to the heavily backswept impeller, Selenius said. And the hydrofoil style is particularly effective in high temperature applications above 50-60°C.

The Flygt Top-Entry Agitator is available in thee base models. The model 4850 serves many mixing applications and includes banana blade impellers, with an optional bottom support assembly to affix longer shafts to the basin floor. The models 4860 and 4870, which are for digester mixing, include hydrofoil blades, a patented rotating stabilizer that secures the variable-length shaft to the digester bottom, and a patented leveling flange with gas seal that makes it easy to adjust the shaft to true vertical by just one person. These two models also feature a wear-proof water lock to prevent leakage of harmful gases and agitator breakdown.

SUNDBYBERG, SWEDEN - January 25, 2010 - Xylem , the market leader in water and wastewater handling and treatment, announces the launch of the new generation of Flygt jet aerators. Based on the clog-free Flygt N-pumps, the new Flygt jet aerator has become easier to install and maintain.

The new generation of Flygt jet aerators is based on Xylem long experience of aeration and mixing in wastewater treatment plants. The new jet aerators provide a better working environment for personnel during installation, operation and maintenance. The plug-and-play solution can mean lower capital investment costs and can be installed without emptying the tank.

The major changes in the new generation Flygt jet aerators are:
• an improved lift in, lift out structure using Flygt’s proven lifting technology for pumps
• a strengthened stand equipped with rubber dampers

“Apart from the new Flygt jet aerators being easy to install, the service intervals are very long,” says Rachel Davies, Product Manager Aeration, Xylem.

Available with up to three ejectors, the Flygt jet aerator is a flexible aeration solution for small and medium-sized tanks. The proven N-pump technology guarantees a smooth non-clogging operation with minimal maintenance.

Installation on the tank bottom means significantly less spray, low vibration and low noise levels, which greatly improves the working environment.

The Flygt jet aerator is corrosion resistant and is widely used in industrial and sludge applications.
